Professor Accused of Biting Police Officer in Florida!
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Police say a Michigan State University professor whose wife coaches the women's basketball team was arrested on an assault charge in Florida.
Police say that the episode took place after one of the couple's bags did not arrive in the baggage claim. Airline officials told the couple they needed baggage claim stubs to find the lost luggage.
John Douglas McCallie then reportedly went to a trash can where he had thrown out the stubs and started dumping out the trash looking for the tag. An airport official says a police officer asked McCallie to please clean up the mess.
Police said McCallie refused, began yelling obscenities and swung the trash can at the officer. Police say McCallie also bit one of the officer's fingers.
The 56-year-old associate professor of economics is charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence - both felonies.
McCallie is free on bond.
