Father, Son Allegedly Attack Motorist After Crash
(CBS) VALLEY CENTER, Calif. A man and his son allegedly attacked a motorist after their vehicles collided on an East County road in Valley Center.
Authorities received a call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon around 6:40 p.m. Thursday night on Mirar De Valle Road. When they arrived, deputies discovered gun shell casings amid car wreckage from a traffic collision, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.
Russell Collins, 49, was arrested for allegedly firing a semi-automatic weapon at the scene of the crash. However, no one was injured, authorities said.
Apparently, before the gunshots were fired, Collins' son -- Brett Collins -- approached the other driver involved in the crash and attacked him with a metal pipe, sheriff's officials said.
The motorist was not hurt and declined medical attention, said Sgt. M. Moreno.
Brett Collins was detained and taken to Palomar Medical Center for a pre-existing medical problem, he said, adding the investigation into the second attack is ongoing.
