A university student under arrest for trying to withdraw money from the account of a man found dead last month, along with his mother, has admitted to their murder and robbery, police said.

“I spent the money at video game arcades. I murdered them so I could steal some money,” the suspect, 21-year-old Hiroshi Shimura, was quoted as telling investigators.
Local police are grilling Shimura, a third-year student at Nihon University, over his motive for murdering Shinichiro Nomoto, 61, and his 86-year-old mother, Tomie, at their home in Suginami-ku, Tokyo.



Shimura had frequented video game arcades over the past several years, Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) investigators said.

The bodies of the Nomotos were found in their respective bedrooms at their home in Suginami-ku on Jan. 28, the MPD said.

Shimura is under arrest for using Shinichiro Nomoto’s credit card in an unsuccessful attempt to withdraw money at a local convenience store ATM.
